SSF Newsletter September 2025

Rise of the Machines

Dear Sir or Madam,

Since the Industrial Revolution, we have gradually replaced the strength of the arm with the power of the machine. These machines have not only taken over our physical effort, but in many ways surpassed our abilities. In the last decades, it became clear that our technical progress would not remain without consequences: we recognize the growing imbalance between the consumption and renewal of resources, and the gap between the capabilities of our creations and our own ability to foresee the consequences of their use.

More recently, we are confronted with machines that match not only our mechanical strength, but our intellectual power as well. Artificial Intelligence is now capable of performing tasks once reserved for highly trained professionals – and much quicker.

These unprecedented capabilities bring as many opportunities as new risks. To better understand their impact and relevance to the financial sector, we launched a dedicated section on Artificial Intelligence on our website.  It offers insights into the role of AI in sustainable finance – from learning resources to concrete use cases – and highlights the considerations that come with Responsible AI deployment, ensuring that innovation goes hand in hand with long-term value creation.

We have other exciting updates in this newsletter: large pension funds reallocating capital based on sustainability policies, showing the unabated engagement of asset owners on sustainable investing, and many news on carbon markets – from the signature of an agreement between Switzerland and Denmark for the storage of CO2 to our recent and successful carbon markets event with McKinsey and SIX.

Enjoy reading

Kind regards

Romain Leroy Castillo
